Hendrix Park is Bryan County’s recreation complex on Wilma Edwards Road in Ellabell, run by the county Recreation Department. It is the county’s north Bryan home for youth and adult sports, and it sits in Ellabell, the community the Hyundai Metaplant (1500 Genesis Dr., Ellabell) also calls home.

What’s at Hendrix Park

The county lists these amenities on its Hendrix Park page:

  • A 1.6-mile walking and running track
  • Football fields and soccer fields
  • Baseball and softball complexes
  • Covered picnic shelters
  • Two tennis courts
  • A playground for small children
  • A gymnasium

The gym is back

The April 2022 EF-4 tornado that hit north Bryan County badly damaged the park and destroyed its gym. Fields and the walking trail were back in use by August 2023, and the rebuilt gymnasium reopened in January 2026 with a new basketball court and new restrooms, WTOC reported. The county’s own park page still says the gym’s completion date is “TBA,” so call the office before you plan around it.

The county says there are no open-gym hours at Hendrix at this time. Open gym runs at the county’s south Bryan gyms instead (Timber Trail and DuVaul Henderson in Richmond Hill).

Sports and camps

Bryan County Recreation runs youth and adult sports and summer camps out of Hendrix Park. According to the county, Hendrix is the county location that offers soccer several times a year; its Richmond Hill parks do not. Registration is online through the county’s recreation site: you create an account (parent information first) and pick the sport or camp. If you get stuck, the office at 912-851-0092 helps with registration.

Tennis and pickleball are not county rec-league sports, but the courts are open to use. The county points players to local clubs for league play.

Renting a field, the gym or a shelter

To reserve a county facility, use the Facilities tab on the Bryan County Recreation site and fill out the request form. Requests must be in at least 7 business days before your event. The county accepts cash, checks and major credit cards. In-person payments go to the recreation office at 508 Timber Trail, Richmond Hill, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rental fees aren’t published on a page we could verify, so ask the office when you book. One rule worth knowing before a birthday party: the county does not allow bounce houses or inflatables of any kind on county property.
