The convenience centers: what they take
Bryan County offers drop-off at two convenience centers, run for the county by Atlantic Waste Services:
- Fort McAllister Convenience Center: on Fort McAllister Road, just off Highway 144, on the right.
- Mill Creek Convenience Center: 7392 U.S. 280, to the left of Fire Station 5.
According to the county, the centers are for Bryan County residents and take bulk items such as limbs and furniture. A bulk rate based on weight is charged. Household garbage is not accepted. The county also says yard waste can be taken to the county landfills.
The county doesn’t publish its per-pound rate or a full list of accepted items (appliances, tires, electronics, paint). Call Atlantic Waste at (912) 964-2000 with questions about the convenience centers before you go.
Free dump days
Bryan County holds occasional free dump days for residents at both landfills. The most recent was Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026 (WTOC). No next date has been announced; we’ll add it here when the county posts one, and it will be in Hi‘s Week Ahead.
Curbside trash and recycling
Inside the City of Richmond Hill
- Who: the city, through Atlantic Waste.
- Cost: $21.50 a month per residential container, which includes one recycling cart. Extra carts are $6 each.
- When: garbage is picked up once a week. Put the cart at the road, facing the street, at least 2 feet from the curb, by 6 a.m.
- Yard waste: picked up Tuesdays and Thursdays depending on your street, at the curb by 7 a.m. Use paper bags, keep them at least 10 feet from your garbage cart, and keep limbs to 4 to 5 feet long and no more than 6 inches across. Bigger debris, dirt, sod, mulch and rocks go to the landfill.
- Bulk trash: the city runs one free bulk pickup a year for residential water customers (not apartments or gated communities). The 2026 round started March 16. Tires, paint, refrigerators, freezers, batteries, oil and construction debris are not collected.
- Questions: City of Richmond Hill, 912-756-3345.
Unincorporated Bryan County
- Who: Atlantic Waste Services, under contract with the county.
- Cost: billed once a year on your property tax bill, not as a monthly invoice. Every household is assigned a trash cart and a recycling cart, and by county ordinance every residence takes part. Extra carts carry a monthly charge.
- When: collection runs Monday to Friday. Call Bryan County at (912) 653-5252 to start service or find your collection day.
- Problems with current service: Atlantic Waste, (912) 964-2000.
