Richmond Hill & Bryan County Guide

Bryan County Schools & Richmond Hill School Zones

Every school in the district, why Richmond Hill elementary is split into grade bands, how to find your zone, and what the state’s numbers show.

Quick answer: Richmond Hill and the rest of Bryan County are served by one district, Bryan County Schools, with 10 schools: seven in south Bryan (Richmond Hill) and three in north Bryan (Pembroke). Your school depends on your home address, not your city limits. Look up your zone on the district’s attendance-zone page, then confirm it with the district before you sign a lease or close on a house.

One district, two halves

Bryan County Schools covers the whole county. The district describes it as two service areas, north Bryan (Pembroke) and south Bryan (Richmond Hill), on either side of Fort Stewart. The school list below shows the split: seven schools have Richmond Hill addresses, and three have Pembroke addresses.

The district has grown fast. According to WTOC, it went from about 7,700 students in 2012 to more than 10,800, and its staff grew from about 1,000 to over 1,800. The state’s 2024-25 count for the district is 10,846 students.

Why south Bryan elementary is split into grade bands

This is what trips up most newcomers. In south Bryan, there are two kinds of elementary school.

  • Grade-band schools. Richmond Hill Primary (PK-1), Richmond Hill Elementary (grades 2-3) and Dr. George Washington Carver Elementary (grades 4-5) sit at consecutive addresses on Frances Meeks Way (471, 473 and 476). A child covers kindergarten through grade 5 by moving through all three, since each school holds only part of the range.
  • Traditional PK-5 schools. McAllister Elementary and Frances Meeks Elementary each run PK through grade 5 under one roof.

One naming trap: Frances Meeks Elementary is at 488 Warren Hill Road, not on Frances Meeks Way. The street is home to the three grade-band schools, so a GPS pin for “Frances Meeks” can send you to the wrong place. Check the address in the table before the first day.

After grade 5, south Bryan students go to Richmond Hill Middle (6-8) and then Richmond Hill High (9-12). In north Bryan, the path is Bryan County Elementary, Middle and High.

How to find your school zone

Attendance zones are set by the Bryan County Board of Education. They do not follow city limits, and a street name or subdivision name alone does not tell you the answer. We are not going to tell you which school a given neighborhood is zoned to, because zones can change and the district is the only source that counts.

  1. South Bryan elementary: open the district’s page, School Attendance Zones for South Bryan Elementary Students. The district also links to it from its registration page.
  2. North Bryan, Ellabell and anywhere the page does not cover: we did not find a public zone lookup. Call the school nearest you (numbers are in the tables above) or the district office and give the exact street address.
  3. Get it confirmed. Before you sign a lease or close, ask the district to confirm the zone for your exact address. A lookup page is a starting point, not a promise.

Ellabell and Hyundai Metaplant families: the district’s three north Bryan schools are in Pembroke. We could not find an official statement of which school an Ellabell address is zoned to, so confirm it with the district first.

How to enroll

Registration runs through the district’s registration page, which links to the online portal and to the district’s list of documents needed for registration.

  • Online first: the district calls online registration “the easiest and preferred way.” You upload documents as photos or PDFs, it takes about 20 to 25 minutes, and processing can take up to 2 business days during the school year. If the portal gives you trouble, you can bring the same items to the school.
  • Residency: the student must live in Bryan County with a parent or court-approved legal guardian. Owning property in the county without living there does not count. Families living with another Bryan County resident fill out a Joint Residency Affidavit in the portal.
  • Buying or building a home: you can enroll with a non-contingent sales contract and a sworn statement from the builder or realtor that you will move in within 9 weeks of registration. The district won’t provide bus service until the move is complete.
  • Documents: check the district’s “Documents Needed for Registration” list, linked from the registration page, before you start.

Kindergarten age cutoff

A child must be 5 on or before September 1 of the current school year to start kindergarten, per State Board of Education Rule 160-5-1-.28, as the district’s registration page states.

New schools and the ESPLOST timeline

Several projects are moving at once. Here is what is confirmed, with dates.

Project Status
New Richmond Hill High School campus Opened Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025, with nearly 2,700 students on day one (Yahoo News). Listed at 500 Wildcat Blvd by the state.
New Bryan County High School (Pembroke) A two-story school off Payne Drive, targeted to open in August 2029 (WTOC). Permitting with the City of Pembroke was under way as of the June 2026 board newsletter, and the city asked for a traffic impact study.
New south Bryan middle school To be built on part of the former Richmond Hill High School campus and “currently under design” in the board’s June 2026 newsletter. The old high school’s west campus building is being prepared for demolition. We did not find an official opening date.
McAllister Elementary addition A wing addition. Drawings were complete and submitted to the state for approval (June 2026 board newsletter).
Sources: WTOC (April 28, 2026), Yahoo News (August 2025), Bryan County Board of Education newsletter (June 2026, published July 2, 2026).

The new high school ties to the education special purpose local option sales tax (ESPLOST) and bond question on the May 19, 2026 ballot. The question passed, and the board approved a resolution declaring the results on June 25, 2026.

Will the new schools change your zone? We found no rezoning item in the board materials we could read, and no announcement of one. That is not a guarantee. If you are buying a home because of a specific school, watch the Board of Education page for meeting agendas.

How Bryan County schools perform on state measures

Georgia does not give schools letter grades anymore. GOSA publishes a single 0-100 score built from the state’s College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). Here is the district against the state:

2023 2024 2025 (2024-25)
Georgia 74.0 78.9 78.0
Bryan County Schools 85.0 88.6 87.2
Source: GOSA CCRPI Single Score, 2025 School Grades data file.

In the 2025 file, the district’s component scores were 90.2 for elementary, 82.0 for middle and 86.9 for high school.

Class of 2025 four-year graduation rate Rate
Bryan County, all schools 94.5%
Richmond Hill High 95.8%
Bryan County High 89.0%
Georgia 87.2%
Source: Georgia Department of Education, 2025 Four-Year Graduation Rate, All Students (September 2025). The district’s homepage has shown slightly different figures; we use the state’s.

A word of caution: a single school’s score can swing a lot from year to year, especially at the small grade-band schools. Do not choose a house off one number. Look up the school you care about on the GOSA School Grades Reports and read several years. Bryan County’s state system ID is 615. The district said in June 2026 that its preliminary 2026 Georgia Milestones results looked good, but it had no final numbers yet.

A note on the Richmond Hill High School address

Sources disagree on the address. The state’s GOSA file lists the high school at 500 Wildcat Blvd, and that is the address we use. Some older district listings show 1 Wildcat Drive, which may be the old campus. The new campus opened in August 2025. Before you drive over for a tour or registration, call the school at 912-459-5151 and confirm where to park and which entrance to use.

Frequently asked questions

Which school will my kid go to in Richmond Hill?

It depends on your address. Use the district’s South Bryan attendance-zone page, then confirm the result with the district. We do not list zones by subdivision.

Why are there three elementary schools on Frances Meeks Way?

They split the grades. Richmond Hill Primary is PK-1, Richmond Hill Elementary is grades 2-3 and Carver Elementary is grades 4-5. McAllister and Frances Meeks Elementary are separate PK-5 schools.

How old does my child need to be for kindergarten?

Five on or before September 1 of the school year, per the state rule the district cites on its registration page.

Which school do Hyundai Metaplant families in Ellabell attend?

We could not find an official statement that maps Ellabell addresses to a school. The district’s north Bryan schools are in Pembroke. Confirm with the district using your exact address.

Are Bryan County schools good?

On state measures, the district’s 2025 CCRPI single score was 87.2 against 78.0 for Georgia, and its four-year graduation rate for the Class of 2025 was 94.5% against 87.2% statewide. Scores differ by school and year, so check the school you are considering on GOSA.

Will the new high school and middle school change school zones?

No zone change has been announced in the materials we could read. A new Bryan County High School is targeted for August 2029 and a new south Bryan middle school is in design. Watch Board of Education agendas.
