In recognition of National Nurses Week, SD Gunner Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to training and supporting service and therapy dogs, brought smiles to local nurses with heartwarming therapy dog visits.

Throughout the week, certified therapy dog teams from SD Gunner Fund visited several hospitals in the Savannah area including Saint Joseph Hospital and Candler Hospital, interacting with nurses and hospital staff. These special visits aimed to provide a much-needed moment of stress relief and emotional support to local nurses.

“Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system, providing compassionate care to patients day in and day out,” said Britnee Kinard, Executive Director at SD Gunner Fund. “National Nurses Week is the perfect time to show our appreciation for their dedication and resilience. The calming presence of our therapy dogs can bring a welcome break from the daily routine and help nurses recharge and refocus.”

The therapy dogs, along with their volunteer handlers, were greeted with enthusiasm by nurses throughout the hospitals. The simple act of petting and interacting with these furry companions provided a welcome dose of joy and relaxation.

“These visits were a wonderful way to de-stress and bring a smile to our faces during a busy week,” shared Jennifer Amato, a local nurse.  “The dogs were so friendly and well-behaved, and it was a joy to spend some time with them.”
