Girls on the Run, Savannah Kennel Club, and SD Gunner Fund are hosting a free empowering, victims’ rights event called Dogs Are a Girl’s Best Friend on Friday, August 26th, 2022, at Victory North in Savannah, GA from 6:00-9:00PM.

This multi-level event, emceed by Renee LaSalle, will include outdoor activities for children; live music, hors d’oeurves, a silent auction, and cash bar on the first level; community resources such as Girls on the Run, Mary’s Place, Effingham County Victim Witness Assistance Program, SD Gunner Fund and more on the second level; and on-site crisis counseling on the third level.

The evening will culminate with Ms. Veteran America and sexual assault survivor, Elizabeth Luras, being presented with a Shiloh Shephard puppy that will be specially trained as her service dog.  Luras suffered military sexual trauma as a young soldier. She has overcome the challenges of the past to help others today, advocating for MST (military sexual trauma) veterans. She can relate to the hardships and unique challenges MST veterans face.  Luras competed in Ms. Veteran America, which raises money for homeless female veterans and their children, and she also received the Ms. Resilience award for her extensive work with veterans.

Dogs Are a Girl’s Best Friend will be a meaningful evening as people of all ages are welcome to join and help break the cycle of abuse by showing young women the power they possess inside.
