Did you know that Fort Pulaski took eighteen years to build, at a cost of over one million dollars between 1829 and 1847? Advanced Union artillery made quick work of it though, breaching its walls from over a mile away in 1862. Fort Pulaski was also a POW camp, a stop on the underground railroad, and the site of one of the earliest known photographs of baseball.
