Yesterday will forever be known as a monumental day in Bryan County as Hyundai Motor Group broke ground on their new electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facility. Five months after announcing the location, Jose Munoz, President and CEO of Hyundai North America, declared the plant officially under construction. “This is going to be a massive operation with a scale that is hard to comprehend,” he said as they rolled drone footage of the mega site. “You have my personal commitment that we will work with you to bring the right resources, opportunities and even a little fun to the citizens and residents of Bryan County,” Munoz added, later thanking the Joint Development Authority which is led by members of our community, Anna Chafin and Carter Infinger for their part in making this project happen.

Governor Kemp echoed the excitement saying, “It’s hard to believe it was only 5 months ago that we announced the historic investment of Hyundai in Georgia… and we are making history already again today.”

Kemp went on to congratulate the partners of Hyundai’s Metaplant America for being the largest economic project in the history of the State of Georgia, noting “We will continue to build on this achievement for years to come.”

Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, Euisun Chung, who attended the announcement ceremony in May virtually, made the journey for yesterday’s celebration recognizing Hyundai’s mission of Progress for Humanity, saying as he looked around the room, that he knows for certain “We chose the right site, the right partners and the right state for progress.
